Welcome to CiteCount (“the Service”), a web application available at cite.js.org. By accessing or using CiteCount, you agree to these Terms of Service (“Terms”). If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
CiteCount is a tool designed to help users count words in text while excluding citations, with all processing occurring on your device. You may use the Service for personal, non-commercial purposes in accordance with these Terms.
“International Baccalaureate” and “IB” are registered trademarks owned by the International Baccalaureate Organization. CiteCount has been developed independently from and is not endorsed by the International Baccalaureate Organization. Any references to IB-related terms are for informational purposes only and do not imply affiliation or approval.
We have made every effort to ensure that CiteCount accurately counts words and excludes citations in line with common academic styles (e.g., MLA, APA, Chicago). However, the Service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, reliability, or fitness for a particular purpose. We are not liable for any errors, inaccuracies, or omissions in the Service's output, nor for any damages or losses resulting from your use of or reliance on it. You use CiteCount at your own risk.
CiteCount and its original content, design, and functionality are the intellectual property of CiteCount, protected under applicable copyright laws as of 2025. No part of the Service—including its code, interface, or documentation—may be copied, reproduced, distributed, or used for any purpose, commercial or otherwise, without our prior written permission. However, CiteCount is open-source, meaning the source code is publicly available for users to review for safety and transparency. This open-source access does not grant permission to copy or adapt the Service for other purposes.
You agree to:
We reserve the right to terminate or restrict access to the Service at our discretion if these Terms are violated.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, CiteCount and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service, including but not limited to data loss, errors in word counts, or reliance on the Service's output. Our total liability, if any, shall not exceed the amount you paid to use the Service (which is zero, as it is free).
CiteCount uses Google Analytics and LiteAnalytics for anonymized usage tracking, as detailed in our Privacy Policy. These third-party services are governed by their own terms and policies, which you should review.
We may update these Terms from time to time. Changes will be posted here with an updated “Effective Date.” Your continued use of CiteCount after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
